Candidate Bio

  • Deliver a sound, stable budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year – Complete a review of prior council spending and main revenue areas to tailor the budget to the organization’s true needs
  • Work with the AMS to finalize the endowment fund – After finalizing, create a scholarship/bursary to offer financial assistance to arts students
  • Strengthen the sponsorship arm of the organization to help finance events.

My name is Andrew Lavers and I am a second-year student who has been actively involved with the AUS since I came to UBC. I am currently serving as Interim AMS Representative and as the Arts Last Lecture Coordinator. Previously, I served as the Financial Director for the First Year Committee. These previous positions have allowed me to develop knowledge of the workings of the AUS and campus politics. I have experience budgeting for events, both small and large, completing committee accounting, and working constructively with committees and executive members, all of which will translate into effective skills for the VP Finance portfolio. I’d love to be elected as your next VP Finance to be able to have the opportunity to be a constructive, collaborative member of the executive team, and to provide reliable financial work for the organization. • FACILITATION OF AN AUDIT – Ensure that the 250,000 dollars budget is spent sustainability and efficiently. Reallocation of resource; bringing savings for academic services.
  • TRANSPARENT GOVERNANCE – Publicize monthly financial transcript including rationales of spendings; ensuring you accountable student governance by number and reasoning.
  • EMPOWERING STUDENT VOICE – Bi-weekly survey given to Arts Students through random sampling; completed online or in person, allowing the administration of financial decisions based on student voice.
I am Jimmy Wan running to become your VP Finance. My leadership capacity (as an Economics student, Financial auditor and Student Governance) has readied me to advocate for a betterment of your experience in the Faculty of Arts.

I am a strong believer that, the AUS should be student-centered, prioritizing the needs of all members of Faculty of Arts. Through my platform, I intend to budget to benefit a broader spectrum of students, reaching out to those who were never involved in the AUS before.

As our faculty continues to grow, it is important to: strengthen student voice, maintain financial sustainability and to provide easy to access.

Through the guidance of the current AUS VP Finance and AMS executives, the voice of many ‘average Art Students’, I believe that I have the capacity to take on the role of VP Finance, bring you a better experience as an Art Student.
